Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju, popularly known as “Headmaster,” has called for full support for Austin Eguavoen and his technical crew.
Adepoju emphasized the importance of backing the team after they successfully secured Nigeria’s qualification for the 2025 AFCON.
Eguavoen, serving as interim head coach, guided the Super Eagles to the tournament with two games to spare.
Nigeria topped Group D with 11 points, achieving three wins, two draws, and one loss during the campaign.
In an interview with Brila FM’s Ifeanyi Udeze on No Holds Barred, Adepoju praised Eguavoen’s achievements, stating that he had accomplished one of the team’s main objectives.
“I would rate him very well. Number one, we’ve qualified for the AFCON, which is one of the objectives.
I would say he has done well and is still doing well,” Adepoju said.
In addition, the former Real Madrid player stressed the need for the Nigeria Football Federation and fans to support Eguavoen and his staff to ensure continued progress.
“They should keep encouraging him. I believe he’s getting things done, I will rate him high, let just keep supporting him,” Adepoju added.
Despite the success, it remains unclear whether the NFF will retain Eguavoen and his team permanently or keep them on an interim basis.
Up Next, World Cup Qualifiers
Up next for the Super Eagles is the challenge of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where they currently sit fifth in their group with just three points from four matches.
Again, only a dramatic turnaround will be needed for Nigeria to secure a spot at the global showpiece.
Adepoju’s comments reflect the belief that continuity and support could be key as the Super Eagles face a critical phase in their journey.
