Multiple reports have confirmed that Super Eagles RB, Ola Aina has been excused from Tuesday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
Nigeria hosts Rwanda in their final group match of the qualifiers and Aina is the second player who has withdrawn from the fixture.
The match holds very little significance for the Super Eagles who have already booked their place in next year’s tournament following the 1-1 result against Benin Republic and Rwanda’s shock defeat to Libya, on Thursday.
According to sources in the team, Aina returned to England after the match in Abidjan, and only 22 players flew to Uyo.
It’s unclear if Aina picked up an injury, featuring for Eighty-three minutes in Thursday’s match before he was replaced by Bright Osayi-Samuel.
Aina has reportedly returned to his club, Nottingham Forest, though there has been no official word on the development.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali will also play no part in next week’s game as he has been granted compassionate leave of absence following the passing of his Father.
Nwabali announced his father, Godspower Onyekam Abali, Chief Onyeogazrim 1 of Okwuzi, died Friday.
The Super Eagles team coordinator, Dayo Enebi confirmed that Nwabali will not suit up for the match.
“He has been excused from the game. However, the player will come to watch the match and cheer his team mates on,” said Enebi.
Nigeria will finish top of group D with a place in Morocco 2025 AFCON guaranteed.
