Exclusive: ‘I’m Here to Stay!’ – Super Eagles New Invitee Victor Collins Declares

Victor Collins, the promising Nasarawa United defender and Super Eagles newcomer can hardly contain his excitement after receiving his first-ever call-up to the Senior Men’s National Football Team.

The 24-year-old defender is the only NPFL player included in interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen’s 23-man squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers.

In an exclusive interview with Brila.net, Collins described his call up as a dream come true.

“It’s a privilege for me to be here,” Collins said, as he recalled his first impressions.

“Just imagine watching players like Osimhen and Iwobi on TV in the Premier League or Turkish League, and now, I’m here in camp, and meeting them to be teammates.”

Collins, a left-footed centre-back, has already impressed with his work ethic and attitude.

He emphasized that this experience is a chance to learn and grow, and he plans to make the most of it.

“It’s a very good development for me and I need to learn from them and also put in more effort. If I was giving 110% before, I need to give 150% now,” he said.

Despite being the only player from the NPFL in the squad, Collins is not intimidated by the step up in competition.

“My mentality is always about winning; I don’t settle for less. By the special grace of God, I’m here to stay,” Collins declared confidently.

According to assistant coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, the player was personally scouted Eguavoen.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles will kick off their AFCON qualifying campaign against Benin Republic away on Thursday, followed by a home fixture against Rwanda on Monday.

For Collins, it’s a chance to prove his worth on the big stage and potentially solidify his place in the national team setup.
