Ruud van Nistelrooy Departs Manchester United as Rúben Amorim Takes Over

Manchester United announced the departure of interim head coach, Ruud van Nistelrooy following the arrival of Rúben Amorim as the club’s new permanent manager.

Van Nistelrooy, who stepped in after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, led United in four matches, achieving three victories and one draw, with the team scoring a total of 11 goals during his tenure.

A club statement released confirmed the the departure of the for PSV manager.

“Ruud rejoined in the summer and has taken charge of the team for the past four matches as interim head coach.”

“Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club.”

“He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.”

The club also announced that other members of Ten Hag’s backroom staff, including Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel, have left and extended their best wishes to them.

Van Nistelrooy, a former striker at Old Trafford, boasts of 150 goals in 219 appearances over his five-year playing career with the club.

Before his interim role at United, he was head coach of PSV Eindhoven, where he resigned at the end of the 2022-23 season.

Rúben Amorim, formerly of Sporting CP, began his new role at United after managing his last game in Portugal on Sunday.

His appointment will see a shift in United’s tactical setup, with Amorim planning to introduce his favored 3-4-3 formation.

This would make him the first United manager to consistently deploy a three-man defense since Louis van Gaal in 2014.

Amorim’s first match in charge will be against Ipswich Town on November 24.
