French magazine Le Correspondant reported on an alleged leaked medical document regarding the 25-year-old Algerian, though the BBC could not verify this claim.

Olympic Champion Imane Khelif Responds to Renewed Eligibility Allegations

Olympic boxing champion, Imane Khelif is back under scrutiny following claims about her eligibility in the women’s competition at Paris 2024.

French magazine Le Correspondant reported on an alleged leaked medical document regarding the 25-year-old Algerian.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) defended Khelif, stating that the report referenced “unverified documents whose origin cannot be confirmed.”

It also noted Khelif’s ongoing legal actions, including preparations for a lawsuit against those involved in public commentary about her situation.

Khelif, who also holds a World Championship silver medal and competed in Tokyo 2020, has consistently maintained her right to compete as a woman.

Speaking on her case, Khelif said: “I am fully qualified to take part in this competition. I was born a woman, and have lived as a woman. I competed as a woman – there is no doubt about that.”

Back in 2023 Khelif was disqualified from the World Championships due to gender eligibility tests by the International Boxing Association (IBA).

The IOC, overseeing the Paris competition, employed less restrictive eligibility standards, clearing Khelif and Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting to compete.
