Former Nigeria international and Enyimba chairman, Kanu Nwankwo has thrown his support behind Ademola Lookman for the prestigious CAF African Footballer of the Year award.
Lookman has delivered standout performances this season, emerging as a top contender with impressive displays for both club and country.
In an exclusive interview with Brila.net, Kanu, a two-time recipient of the award himself, emphasized that his endorsement is based on Lookman’s skill and dedication, not just shared nationality.
“He is a very good player, he is humble he works very hard. I’m rooting for him,” Kanu praised.
“I want him to win and I believe he is going to win. He has done very well at his club side, country and for him to be at the Ballon d’Or you can see the levels and how they rate him.
Kanu went on to say that, among African players, Lookman stands out as a clear leader this year.
“Coming to africa, I don’t know any other player who is doing what he is doing. I believe that this is his year as the African football player of the year.
“Look at him, look at the other boys, definitely, he will win it.”
The CAF awards ceremony is scheduled for December 16, in Marrakesh, Morocco, where Lookman could succeed his Nigerian teammate, Victor Osimhen, as Africa’s top footballer.
