Victor Boniface and his Bayer Leverkusen teammates were no match for Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League, on Tuesday night.
Liverpool were ruthless, and the Reds showed no mercy as they cruised to a 4-0 victory over the German Champions at Anfield.
Luiz Diaz and Coady Gakpo ran the show, and particularly the Colombian who registered his first ever UCL hat-trick.
The match was expected to further test Arne Slot’s credentials following his impressive start to life at Liverpool, and he yet again proved his worth.
Slot was up against former Liverpool man, and one of football’s new sweethearts, Xabi Alonso.
Alonso with his band caught the attention of the world last season as they blitzed through to claim a domestic double in German and reached the Europa League final, without losing a game.
The Spaniard, had the compliment of most of last season’s stars – Victor Boniface started in Anfield – but nothing seemed to work.
Despite slightly having an edge in possession, Leverkusen only managed 4 shots on goal – had a goal chalked off for handball – and so was the rest of their night, an off day.
Even the introduction of Nathan Tella and Patrik Schick in the 81st minute for Alejandro Grimaldo and Boniface respectively, did little to improve the team’s quality on the pitch.
Victory for Slot’s Army saw them go top of the standings with an impressive 12 points, they’ve also scored 10 goals and conceded just 1 in four matches.
Meanwhile, Leverkusen are 11th and in a round of 16 playoff spot. They’ve picked up a measley 7 points from 4 matches.
