Super Falcons star, Toni Payne and her Everton teammates faced a challenging game as they fell to an unbeaten Chelsea side, losing 5-0 in a Women’s Super League clash on Sunday, at Goodison Park.
Payne started the game as part of Everton’s defensive lineup, played the entire first half and was substituted at half-time.
The game started strongly for Chelsea as Aggie Beever-Jones opened the scoring in the 14th minute.
Erin Cuthbert doubled Chelsea’s lead in the 43rd minute, and Guro Reiten made it three with a strike in added time (45+1), giving the league leaders a 3-0 lead by the break.
After Payne’s exit, Everton struggled to contain the WSL champions, who continued to dominate in the second half.
Kaptein found the net in the 82nd minute, and Lawrence quickly added another goal in the 83rd, sealing Chelsea’s fifth straight win this season.
This result leaves Everton in a difficult position near the bottom of the Women’s Super League table, while Chelsea maintains its strong standing near the top.
