Boniface Scores on Return In Leverkusen, Werder Bremen Four-goal Thriller

Victor Boniface marked his return to Bayer Leverkusen’s lineup with a goal just a week after being involved in a car crash.

The striker scored in Leverkusen’s 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen on Saturday, though the team was unable to hold onto its lead, despite being ahead twice in the match.

Boniface missed Wednesday’s Champions League fixture—a 1-1 draw against Brest—due to minor injuries to his hand and foot sustained as a passenger in a car accident last Sunday.

Playing with a bandaged hand, the 23-year-old striker gave Leverkusen an early advantage by tapping in a cutback from Jeremie Frimpong in the 30th minute.

However, a second opportunity for Boniface to score in the 60th minute was thwarted by Werder’s goalkeeper Michael Zetterer, who pulled off an impressive save.

With his latest goal, Boniface has now scored six league goals this season.

The result places Leverkusen third in the Bundesliga standings with 15 points, trailing Bayern Munich by two points.

Bayern, currently second, faces VfL Bochum on Sunday. RB Leipzig, who defeated Freiburg 3-1, leads the table with 20 points.
