The Confederation of African Football (CAF), Disciplinary Board has awarded Nigeria 3 goals and three points following their botched second-leg, Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Libya.
The ruling came after CAF found the Libya Football Federation guilty of multiple violations, including breaching Article 31 of the AFCON Regulations as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
As part of the sanctions, the LFF has been fined USD 50,000, payable within 60 days.

Nigeria’s team and officials were held in adverse conditions, reportedly detained for over 20 hours upon arrival at a Libyan airport.
Their flight, initially scheduled to land in Benghazi, was redirected to Al-Abraq Airport, a facility with limited resources, despite the pilot’s advance notification of a fuel shortage.

CAF’s Disciplinary Board reviewed the incident during its October 23, 2024, session and concluded that Libya’s actions constituted grounds for match forfeiture.
As a result, the board awarded a 3-0 win to Nigeria by default.
This ruling has bolstered Nigeria’s lead in Group D, where they now hold 10 points from four games.
The Super Eagles had previously won their first encounter with Libya 1-0 in Uyo, and this latest decision further secures their position at the top of the group.
