Nigeria secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over host country, Dominican Republic in the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, thanks to an 89th-minute goal from midfielder Shakirat Moshood.
Moshood’s powerful left-footed strike from 25 yards marked her fourth goal of the tournament, helping Nigeria maintain a perfect record in the group stage.
Nigeria dominated possession early on, with Moshood’s earlier attempt ruled offside by VAR and captain Taiwo Afolabi testing the Dominican goalkeeper.
The win marks Nigeria’s third consecutive victory, cementing their place as Group A leaders with nine points, having previously defeated New Zealand and Ecuador.
The Flamingos in total won all three group stage matches, scoring 9 goals and conceding just one, advancing to the next stage as group leaders.
The Nigerian team will now face the United States in the quarter-final.
