Nigeria sealed a perfect group stage record and its qualification for the quarterfinals of the ongoing FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Dominican Republic.
The Flamingos topped their group with 9 points after a 1-0 victory over the hosts, on Wednesday. That victory followed wins against New Zealand (4-1) and Ecuador (4-0), in the previous group stage matches.
Reacting to the Flamingos’ progress in the competition, former Nigerian footballer Friday Ekpo, is confident in the team.
Ekpo stated that the team’s determination to improve with each game of the competition affected the team’s progress.
He believes the Flamingos are prepared to adjust and compete against stronger teams as they move forward, with their sights set on reaching the final or even winning the tournament.
“We start gradually and when you progress from one stage to another you begin to meet tougher things and play stronger things, and then you change your tactics on what you’ve been doing.”
“I think they will do well, and they have to because it’s on their age. They must make sure they do everything properly so that we have the time to build up.”
“Talking about the World Cup level, I think they will know what they need to do and get to the stage of the final and then gradually get yourself lifted once again.”
