Balogun Calls for CAF Action After Libya Detained Super Eagles For More Than 10 Hours

CB, Leon Balogun has called on the Confederation of African Football to investigate the detention of Super Eagles players and team officials in Libya, following an incident at Al Abaq Airport where they were held for over ten hours.

The Nigerian national team had arrived in Libya ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.

However, their flight, initially headed for Benghazi, was unexpectedly diverted to Al Abaq, a city more than two hours from their intended destination.

Upon arrival, Libyan authorities locked the team and officials inside the airport, leaving them stranded without transport or assistance.

According to airport staff, the delay was ordered by higher authorities, with no member of the Libyan Football Association was present to assist the Nigerian team.

Despite being stuck for hours, the gates remained locked, and no buses were provided for travel.

Reacting to the situation, Balogun took to social media, calling on CAF to take action. “Hey @CAF_Online – surely you’re going to investigate thoroughly and take action, right? Whoever is responsible for this needs to be held accountable. This is unacceptable,” he posted.
