Nigerian football legend, Nwankwo Kanu has identified Morocco as the favorite to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Morocco, currently one of Africa’s strongest teams, will host the 2025 tournament.
The Atlas Lions have delivered strong performances in recent tournaments, reaching the quarter-finals of the last AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire and the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Kanu believes that Morocco’s formidable squad, coupled with their status as the host nation, gives them a significant advantage in the upcoming tournament.
“Morocco has always produced great players playing in Europe,” Kanu told Le Site Info.
“But this generation is unmatched. Yassine Bounou, Achraf Hakimi… the technical skills and overall talent of the squad make them clear favorites for the next AFCON.”
Kanu faced Morocco twice,( in 2000 and 2004 AFCON) during his team with Super Eagles.
Reflecting on his own experience, Kanu added,
“I played against Morocco in the 2000 and 2004 AFCON tournaments. They always enter as favorites but have often struggled to fulfill the dreams of millions of Moroccans.
“Hosting the tournament at home gives them every opportunity to finally win the title.”
He concluded, “I firmly believe that the Atlas Lions will not let the 2025 AFCON slip away, especially with Morocco hosting the tournament.”
