As the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup approaches, the Dominican Republic, one of Nigeria’s group-stage opponents, suffered a 3-1 defeat to Kenya in a warm-up match.
Kenya took control early in the game, with Valerie Nekesa and Marion Serenge both finding the net in the first half. Lindey Atieno secured Kenya’s win with an 81st-minute strike, leaving the Dominican Republic with little time to respond.
The Dominican Republic, hosts of this year’s tournament, will face Nigeria, Ecuador, and New Zealand in Group A, while Kenya is set to compete in Group C against Korea DPR, Mexico, and England.
With less than a week to go before the tournament kicks off, teams are using these warm-up matches to fine-tune their tactics and strategies.
Spain won the last edition in India 2022, defeating Colombia in the final, while Nigeria claimed the bronze medal after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Germany.
