Former assistant coach of the Super Falcons, Mansur Abdullahi has advised the Nigeria Football Federation to consider appointing Justin Madugu, the interim head coach, as the permanent head of the Super Falcons.
In an interview with Brila.net, Abdullahi vouched for Nigerian coaches’ ability to lead the national team, pointing out that local coaches have brought home several trophies and achieved milestones that foreign coaches have not.
“Nigerian coaches are capable of handling the team. Indigenous coaches have won a lot of trophies for Nigeria, reaching heights that foreign coaches failed to reach.”
He recalled that Justin Madugu has been closely involved with the team and deserves the support needed to succeed as a full-time coach.
“Is there any foreigner that has achieved what Nigerian coaches have achieved before now? The answer is no. And Justin Madugu, there was a time the Randy Waldrum left, and Justin Madugu took charge and qualified the team for the Olympics.”
He further argued that Madugu’s past performance speaks for itself, referencing a time when Madugu stepped in and delivered a good result for the team.
“So what are we talking about? Since the NFF appointed him as an interim coach, his performance will speak for him. His performance has spoken for him before now, but when Waldrum left the team and later came back again, Justin Madugu played and got a very good result.”
