Nigeria U17 WNT played out a 1-1 draw against their Mexican Counterparts in a friendly matc, on Monday.
Both teams will participate in the forthcoming FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Dominican Republic.
The test game took place in the Caribbean country as they Teams put finishing touches to their preparation for the competition which holds later this month.
During the game, Nigeria drew first blood through Faridat Abdulkareem in the 33rd minute at the end of a well-executed team move.
However Mexico responded just before the break, scoring in the 42nd minute to level. Both teams created chances in the second half, but neither could find a winner.
Coach Bankole Olowookere and his team will now turn their focus to the World Cup proper.
They have been placed in Group A alongside host nation Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Zealand.
Nigeria’s first match is on October 16, against New Zealand, a key game for setting a positive tone for the rest of the tournament.
The team’s best performance came in 2022, when they finished third in India.
This year, they aim to improve on that success and compete for the title in the Dominican Republic.
