Nottingham Forest head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, has confirmed that discussions are underway regarding a contract extension for Super Eagles full-back, Ola Aina.
Aina, 27, joined Forest on a free transfer from Torino in 2022, signing a one-year deal with the option to extend for an additional year.
That extension was triggered towards the end of last season, securing the former Chelsea defender’s stay at the City Ground until the summer of 2024.
With the January transfer window fast approaching, Aina will soon be eligible to negotiate pre-contract agreements with other clubs.
However, Nottingham Forest are taking steps to avoid this, as they work towards retaining the Nigerian international.
“Ola Aina has been exceptional since joining us. We’re eager to secure his future with the club,” Nuno said during a pre-match press conference ahead of Forest’s upcoming trip to Stamford Bridge, where they will face Chelsea.
Aina himself has expressed his contentment at Nottingham Forest. In a previous interview with BBC Radio Nottinghamshire, he shared his thoughts on his future.
“All I can say is I am really happy at Forest right now. It’s a fantastic club, I feel at home, and we’re just building. I’m patient with the club is building, and we’ll see what happens in the future,” Aina said.
Nottingham Forest has had a strong start to the season, losing just one game so far — a narrow defeat to Fulham.
They will aim to bounce back in tomorrow’s clash against an in-form Chelsea side, with Aina expected to play a key role.
