Club Brugge captain, Hans Vanaken praised Raphael Onyedika for setting up the winning goal against Sturm Graz in the UEFA Champions League.
Despite a defeat on the opening day to Borussia Dortmund, Onyedika impressed and was singled out for praise.
The Nigerian followed that performance with another standout display against Sturm Graz on Wednesday.
Onyedika combined with Christos Tzolis to secure a 1-0 victory for Club Brugge — their first win in this season’s competition.
With the game tied at 0-0, Tzolis scored the decisive goal for the Belgian giants after a brilliant pass from Onyedika.
Speaking after the match, Hans Vanaken commended both Onyedika and the goal scorer.
“What a goal. Fine control, great assist by Onyedika, and neatly finished by Tzolis,” Vanaken told the club’s official website.
“We had so much possession. We had another excellent opportunity through Jutglà that really should have gone in, but it didn’t. It would have made things much easier for us.”
Onyedika has had a strong start to the season and was recently named Club Brugge’s Player of the Month for September.
