Ademola Lookman delivered another man-of-the-match performance, scoring his first UEFA Champions League goal and assisting another in Atalanta’s 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk, on Wednesday night at the VELTINS-Arena.
Following a goalless draw against Arsenal in their opening group-stage match, and with only one UCL victory since September 2021, Atalanta approached this neutral-ground clash in Gelsenkirchen with determination.
The Italian side quickly asserted their dominance, searching for an early breakthrough.
The 26 year-old Nigerian forward set up Switzerland international Berat Djimsiti for the opener after 21 minutes.

Just before the break, Lookman doubled Atalanta’s lead with a clinical finish, thanks to an assist from Saed Kolasinac.
Lookman’s contributions this season have been nothing short of outstanding.
He now has four goals and two assists in all competitions, reinforcing his credentials as a strong contender for the 2023/24 African Player of the Year award.

Meanwhile, In other Champions League action, Raphael Onyedika, played a crucial role in his team’s 1-0 away victory against Austrian side Sturm Graz in.
Named Club Brugge’s Player of the Month, the 23-year-old Nigerian midfielder provided a decisive assist, helping his team secure their first win of this year’s competition.
Onyedika’s presence on both ends of the pitch was invaluable as he completed the full 90 minutes, with 69 touches and crucial contributions in defense and attack.
