CAF Announces 2024 African Nations Championship Qualifiers Draw Date

The Confederation of African Football, has officially announced that the draw for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), qualifiers will take place on October 9, 2024.

The event is set for 14:00 Cairo time (11:00 GMT).

For the first time in the tournament’s history, the championship will be co-hosted by three nations: Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

These East African nations were confirmed earlier as hosts for the event, which will run from February 1 to February 28, 2025.

In a notable change, the number of teams competing in the final tournament has increased from 18 to 19, introducing an additional slot for one more nation. The qualifiers will feature two rounds, played on a home-and-away basis, leading up to the main event.

The first round of qualifiers is scheduled for the weekends of October 25–27 and November 1–3, 2024. The second round will follow from December 20–22 and December 27–29, 2024.

Since its inception in 2009, the CHAN tournament has provided an exceptional platform to showcase the immense talent in African football and its dynamic, evolving landscape.

For Nigeria, the CHAN Eagles will be led by head coach Augustine Eguavoen, assisted by Daniel Ogunmodede, Fidelis Ilechukwu, and others.

Nigeria has participated three times, but yet to win the tournament, with their best performance being as runner-up  in 2018.

After missing out on qualification in both 2020 and 2022, the team is eager to make a strong comeback in 2024, ending a four-year absence from the tournament.
