Jennifer Echegini’s PSG Face Shock Exit from UEFA Women’s Champions League

Paris St-Germain have been eliminated from the qualifying stages of the Women’s Champions League as they were beaten 5-2 over two legs by Juventus, Jennifer Echegini losing to her former team.

Juventus are the first team to knock Paris out of the UWCL before the quarter-finals since Tyresö 2013/14.

Echegini was substituted into the game and was on the pitch for 53 minutes.

Last season’s semi-finalists were defeated 2-1 at home on Thursday, following a 3-1 loss in Turin in the first leg.

PSG’s chances of a comeback were dashed after only two minutes, when Sofia Cantore scored from close range for the visitors during a goalmouth scramble.

Romee Leuchter equalised from the penalty spot to give the French hope, but Barbara Bonansea headed past former Manchester United goalkeeper, Mary Earps from a corner in the 72nd minute to seal the contest.

The early exit is unusual for Fabrice Abriel’s side, since PSG has reached at least the quarter-finals of the competition in each of the previous five seasons.

Juventus have qualified for the group stages for the first time since the 2022-23 campaign after losing to Eintracht Frankfurt in qualifying last season.
