Anthony Joshua’s quest to reclaim the IBF heavyweight title came to a devastating end after a brutal knockout by titleholder Daniel Dubois in Saturday.

Dubois, 27, floored Joshua multiple times before sealing the win with a decisive right hook in the fifth round, securing the biggest victory of his 24-fight career.

The bout, watched by 96,000 fans, has cast serious doubt on Joshua’s future in the sport.

Joshua, 34, was aiming to become a three-time heavyweight champion but instead suffered his first loss in five fights, dropping his record to 28-4.

Dubois, who now holds an improved 21-3 record, successfully defended his title and solidified his status in the heavyweight division and the new poster boy of British boxing.

Speaking after his defeat, Joshua admitted, “I had a sharp and fast opponent… and a lot of mistakes from my end,” speaking to DAZN after the fight.

Dubois, on his part said : “I’m a gladiator… a warrior to the end, to the bitter end.”

With this victory, Dubois has positioned himself for a potential shot against the winner of the highly anticipated bout between Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury fight, set for December 21.
