His Best was not Enough – Gift Okunwa On Randy Waldrum’s Super Falcons Tenure

Former Super Falcons player, Gift Okunwa Igunbor has voiced her support for the idea of the Nigerian Football Federation, appointing an indigenous coach to lead the team.

Speaking with Brila.net, Okunwa-Igunbor argued that Nigerian coaches are capable of continuing from where Waldrum left off.

“We have so many team coaches now. We have a lot of coaches that can handle the team,” she said.

“Like a real coach, he can do the job. We have so many people. We have so many coaches that can do it.”

She appreciated Waldrum for his dedication during his commendable tenure but suggested that his tenure could be built upon by local coaches.

“He (Waldrum) tried his best, but his best was not enough. He’s a coach that stands on the right. He’s a coach that doesn’t want to have any sentiments in any of his players.”

The former Super Falcons player is confident that Nigerian coaches can continue to uphold the values of fairness and team spirit while leading the national women’s team.

“I believe they can do it,” she concluded.
