Club Brugge manager, Nicky Hayen says he’s happy to keep Raphael Onyedika at the club after the midfielder’s proposed transfer to Turkish champions Galatasaray fell through.
Onyedika, an important figure since his arrival two years ago, played a key role in guiding the club to a domestic double last season.
The Nigerian came close to joining Galatasaray during the summer, a deal between the two clubs could not be finalized despite Onyedika agreeing to personal terms.
Undeterred by the failed transfer, Onyedika has continued to shine this season, playing in almost all the matches.
Following Brugge’s UEFA Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, Hayen praised the midfielder’s professionalism and influence on the team.
“I’m happy. Man of the match is an exaggeration, but if you see the impact he had… Both in possession and in loss of possession, he is a very important player for us at the moment. He makes other players better,” Hayen remarked.
Onyedika remains a crucial part of both Club Brugge and the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles.
