Super Eagles caretaker coach, Austin Eguavoen has admitted his team is under pressure ahead of their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Benin Republic on Saturday.
The Nigerian team is under scrutiny after a disappointing run in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where they failed to secure a win in four consecutive matches.
In June, Nigeria was held to a 1-1 draw at home by South Africa, followed by a 2-1 loss to Benin Republic in Cote d’Ivoire.
Addressing reporters ahead of the AFCON qualifier, Eguavoen said they must find a way to end the team’s winless streak.
“Expectations are high. We’re at home, we’re in good spirits, and we want the three points,” Eguavoen stated.
“We will approach the game with all seriousness and will do everything possible to win. It will be nothing but a win.”
Eguavoen concluded that Super Eagles are determined to redeem themselves after the recent poor run of results and boost their chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON.
