Napoli head coach, Antonio Conte has revealed that the club’s inability to sell striker Victor Osimhen significantly impacted their summer transfer window strategy.

According to Conte, Napoli had planned to reinvest the funds from Osimhen’s potential sale back into strengthening the squad.

However, with no deal materializing, the club had to adjust its plans.

Negotiations with Al Ahli and Chelsea for Osimhen’s transfer ultimately fell through, leaving Napoli with the Nigerian forward still on their roster.

Despite these setbacks, Napoli made a late splash on the transfer deadline day by securing the signings of Romelu Lukaku and Scott McTominay.

“We need to be more effective from set pieces and shots from distance to create scoring opportunities,” Conte stated.

“We started rebuilding this team with 10-12 new players, although some of them joined quite late.”

Conte added that, Napoli couldn’t bring in some player because Osimhen didn’t not leave.

“We did not just bring in players to build on an existing team but to fill specific gaps, and I am happy with the work done by the club.

“If we had been able to sell Osimhen, it would have been an even better situation, but what happened cannot be changed, and we move on.” He concluded.
