Despite Team Nigeria’s underwhelming performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, several of the Athletes have made significant strides in the latest World Athletics rankings.

Sprinter Favour Ofili and quarter miler Samuel Ogazi, along with shot putter Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, emerged as some of the top gainers in the newly released rankings.

Favour Ofili, made a remarkable leap from 31st to 8th in the global 200m rankings.

She now holds the top spot in Africa for the event after reaching the women’s 200m final.

In the men’s 400m, Samuel Ogazi also saw a substantial improvement, climbing from 23rd to 12th in the world rankings.

Ogazi, who reached the final in Paris, is now ranked third in Africa.

19-year-old Kayinsola Ajayi, who advanced to the semi-finals of the men’s 100m, improved his position from 25th to 23rd in the world rankings, placing him seventh in Africa.

Meanwhile, two-time African champion Chukwuebuka Enekwechi moved up to 7th in the world in the men’s Shot Put after reaching the Olympic final.

In the women’s long jump, Ruth Usoro and Prestina Ochonogor also made gains.

Usoro rose from 26th to 22nd and Ochonogor improving her ranking from 30th to 25th after both reached the finals in Paris.
