Nigeria’s Kayinsola Ajayi secured his place in the semi-finals of the men’s 100m event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after a commanding performance in heat 5, finishing first with a time of 10.02 seconds (-0.3).
Ajayi edged Italy’s Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs, who came in second with a time of 10.05 seconds.
Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu took third place with a time of 10.06 seconds.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Favour Ashe faces had to wait to see if he progressed as one of the non-automatic qualifiers.
Ashe finished fourth in heat 4 with a time of 10.16 seconds.
Japan’s Hakim Brown secured second place with a time of 10.02 seconds, while Thailand’s Puripol Boonson clinched the final automatic qualifying spot with a time of 10.13 seconds.
