In the wake of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games clash, Spain’s head coach Montserrat Tomé, has commended Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie for her exceptional performance.
The match, held over the weekend, saw Nnadozie make several remarkable saves that kept the World Champions at bay.
Tomé acknowledged that Nnadozie’s skills significantly influenced Spain’s strategy.
“We knew that Nnadozie was a good goalkeeper. Her style of play conditioned us a lot because of the long shots she has,” Tomé said.
Despite Nigeria’s opportunities to take the lead, it was Alexia Putellas’ late goal that secured Spain’s 1-0 victory.
“I’m very happy. They had already ruled out a goal by Salma, which was offside. We had chances, Aitana had them, Alexia had them too, others,” Tomé added.
Nigeria, now without points after two games, face a crucial match against Japan.
They must secure a win by at least two goals to advance from the group stage.
