Former Nigerian international, Juwon Oshaniwa has expressed his concerns about the preparation and organization of the Super Eagles, urging the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to adopt a more proactive approach.
Oshaniwa’s comments reflect the growing frustration among fans and football enthusiasts regarding Nigeria’s recent performances and preparation strategies.
In a chat with Brila.net, Oshaniwa highlighted the critical need for thorough preparation, emphasizing that the way a team prepares directly impacts its performance in competitions.
“Honestly speaking, I really don’t even know where to come into the whole matter with the Super Eagles,” the former defender said.
“The first thing remains the way you prepare, the way you lay your bed, that is how you’re going to lie on it. That has always been our cry. From our preparation towards stuff is always the issue, so I don’t know how we go about it. And the world of football now, there is no pushover.”
Oshaniwa’s concern is not just about the current state of the team but also about the long-term implications of inadequate preparation.
He pointed out that other teams are always highly motivated when playing against Nigeria, making it essential for the Super Eagles to be well-prepared and organized.
“Maybe those people that said our group is tough or not, they are right but you know anything coming to play in Nigeria when it comes to football, it’s like their World Cup or their final World Cup game.
“So it’s not going to be that easy or a walk in the park. But I think those in charge of appointing coaches should just hasten up things and make sure things are put in place.”
The former defender’s comments come in the wake of disappointing performances in recent World Cup qualifiers, where Nigeria has struggled to meet expectations.
Oshaniwa acknowledged the frustration of fans, who are concerned about the team’s chances of advancing from their group in upcoming competitions.
“Let’s be realistic, we know the fans are down now with the results of the World Cup qualifiers so far. So they just need to do what they need to do and make sure that things are put in place so we can come out of this group successfully.”
