CAF Slaps Cameroun FA President Eto’o with $200k Fine

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a fine of $200,000 on Samuel Eto’o, the President of Fédération Camerounaise de Football (FECAFOOT), for violating federation ethics.

In a statement, CAF announced that Eto’o faced charges of “alleged manipulation of football matches and violating the principles of ethics and integrity” as stipulated in Article 2, paragraph 3 of the CAF Statutes.

The statute mandates that any person or organization involved in African football must consistently uphold the principles of ethics, fair play, integrity, sportsmanship, and comply with CAF and FIFA regulations and directives.

Eto’o was found to have violated this statute by signing a Brand Ambassador contract with the company 1XBET in exchange for remuneration.

However, he was not sanctioned for more serious allegations of match-fixing and manipulation as the Disciplinary Board ruled that there was insufficient evidence to find him and Valentin Nkwain guilty of match manipulation.
