Prosper Chinecherem Nnamdi of Nigeria secured the silver medal in the men’s javelin event at the African Athletics Championship.
Nnamdi, making his debut at the competition, delivered a best throw of 79.22 meters.
He was narrowly defeated by Kenya’s Julius Yego, a seasoned athlete who claimed the gold medal with a throw of 80.24 meters.
Egypt’s Moustafa Mahmoud took the bronze with a throw of 77.25 meters.
Despite narrowly missing out on gold, Nnamdi’s performance marks a significant achievement and sets the stage for future success in the event.
In other events, Nigeria’s men’s 4×400m relay team, comprising Emmanuel Ojeli, Sikiru Adeyemi, Dubem Nwachukwu, and Samuel Ogazi, finished fourth in their final.
The team clocked a time of 3:02.93, trailing behind Zambia, Kenya, and Botswana.
