Former Benin Republic forward Rasak Omotoyossi, has expressed hope that the team could go on to clinch their first ever FIFA World Cup ticket.
The former striker, in a conversation with Brila media, was quizzed about the chances of Benin making the 2026 World Cup.
Omotoyossi said that history is a possibility, referencing Togo’s historic feat in 2006, and now the Cheetahs have a shot at reaching the tournament too.
“Well, let me say history can happen sometimes. When Togo went to the World Cup, nobody believed. So Benin has the chance now, they just have to use it now,” said the 38 year-old.
“So, the game remains up to them. Nigeria has to work hard if they want to become African giants that they are.”
The team led by Gernot Rohr are third in group C, but tied on points with Rwanda and South Africa.
