Sodje Endorses Foreign Technical Adviser for Super Eagles
57
Former Super Eagles defender Sam Sodje has endorsed the idea of appointing a foreign technical adviser to manage the team.
In an interview with Brila.net, Sodje emphasized the urgency of securing World Cup qualification and highlighted the necessity for immediate and strategic actions from the NFF.
Sodje acknowledged the NFF’s recent decision to consider a foreign coach, recognizing it as a positive and timely move given the current challenges facing the Super Eagles.
He noted that while Finidi George, a former Nigerian football legend, has a remarkable legacy as a player, his readiness for the coaching role was questionable at this pivotal time:
“Yeah, about the NFF deciding to take a foreign coach to head the Super Eagles going forward, I think it’s a great call, I think it’s the right idea.
“We’ve not got the luxury now to take the chance on the Finidi. Bless him, I don’t think he was ready.
“Technically, Finidi wasn’t sound enough, but bless him. He’s still gonna be a legend for what he has done in his playing days.
“But right now, about the team, we definitely need actions to be taken, and I think the NFF has done that, so let’s give them the credits.”
He stressed the importance of the NFF improving its technical department to avoid future scenarios where the national team struggles to qualify for major tournaments:
“But they have to really look in the long term of how to really make use of the technical department of the NFF because such things shouldn’t happen again.
“We’ve put ourselves in a very tight corner. And I think hopefully the decision will make the trick and we’ll get to the World Cup.
“But yeah, definitely it turns up to the NFF to take such a decision early doors to make sure we get to the World Cup or get a better result.”
