Nigeria’s national beach soccer team, the Sand Eagles, will make a comeback to international competitions next month.
The Sand Eagles will face Mauritania in the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The first match will be in Nouakchott, Mauritania, from July 19-21, and the return match will be in Nigeria from July 26-28.
It is a big moment for Nigerian beach soccer since the team has not played in a tournament since 2019.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been working hard to bring the team back.
Meanwhile, the team includes experienced players like captain Abu Azeez, who has been a key player for many years.
Winning these matches will be important for Nigeria because it will allow them to compete in the Beach Soccer AFCON in Egypt.
Success in Egypt could lead to a spot in the 2025 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Seychelles.
