Qualifying for the Olympic Games after 16 years, Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has declared that the team is ready to make Nigeria proud, just as they did at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
At the 2023 World Cup, Nigeria had one of their best performances under the guidance of Randy Waldrum.
The team finished second in a group that included strong teams like Canada, Ireland, and Australia then faced a confident England side, who had recently won the Euros, in the round of 16.
Unfortunately, the Super Falcons lost on penalties, despite having opportunities to win the match.
Fast forward to 2024 and the Super Falcons will yet again face a tough test in the Olympic Games, drawn in Group C alongside powerhouses Spain, Brazil, and Japan.
Speaking on their chances, on Tuesday at an LIS event, the Paris FC shot-stopper stated that: “This (grouping) happened at the last World Cup.
“We had Canada, England, and Australia. Nobody believed in us; they believed we were just coming to participate,”
“But we have this team that doesn’t care about what the world is saying. We are mentally and physically prepared, we have young, good, and talented players.
“We are mixed with both old and young players who are experienced and playing in the top European leagues and other countries.”
“I can’t say much because football is unpredictable. What we want to do is on our mind. We are so ready, we will also go there and make the nation proud.
“What we did at the last World Cup wasn’t the end, we are going to continue, and going to the Olympics, we will try our best to qualify from the group stage.”
The 11-time African champions will start their campaign with the opening game against Brazil on July 25.
