Sports Minister Drags NFF Over Super Eagles’ Poor WCQ Campaign
38
The Sports Minister, Senator John Owan Enoh has called on the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to provide a detailed report regarding the disappointing performance of the Super Eagles in recent matches during the June FIFA window.
In their matches, the Super Eagles only managed to secure one point out of a possible six, drawing 1-1 with South Africa in Uyo and suffering a 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic in Abidjan.
These results leave Nigeria with just three points from four games in their bid to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“The recent results are unacceptable,” Senator Enoh stated. “Despite the immense support and the high expectations of Nigerian football fans, the Super Eagles have underperformed.”
He demanded a comprehensive technical report from the NFF to explain the reasons behind the team’s poor showing and to justify why there should be no consequences for the disappointment caused to the Government and the Nigerian people.
Senator Enoh stressed that Nigerian football fans deserve answers and accountability from the NFF.
“Our supporters are passionate and devoted. They deserve an explanation for why our national team has not been performing to the expected standards,” he added.
