Oshoala Becomes Africa’s Most Followed Female Athlete on Instagram

Asisat Oshoala has officially overtaken Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur to become Africa’s most followed female athlete on Instagram.

The Super Falcons star, who is also the reigning African Women’s Footballer of the Year, now holds the title of the “Instagram queen” of women’s sports in Africa.

Oshoala gained 100,000 followers between February and June 2024, bringing her total to over 1.3 million followers.

This growth has allowed her to surpass Jabeur, who had previously held the top spot with the same number of followers.

Last year, Oshoala’s follower count jumped from 887,000 to surpass the 1 million mark for the first time.

Popularly known as ‘Agba Baller’, the 29 year-old forward has now cemented her place as the queen among female athletes on the continent, while Mohamed Salah remains the “Instagram king” of male athletes in African sports.
