Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has confirmed that he reached out to coach Finidi about his fitness ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.
Ekong sustained an injury during the AFCON, where he was named Player of the Tournament and made a significant contribution to the team, scoring three goals.
“I informed the coach that I’m available. Coach Finidi has my full support, I’m fit and ready. Ekong stated.
“He made his list, and I will support the team. I will be in Uyo to support the team and I just want us to qualify for the World Cup.
“To play in the 2026 World Cup and the 2025 AFCON is my goal,” The PAOK defender concluded.
Injury Setback
The 30-year-old injured his hamstring at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations but persevered despite the setback, leading Nigeria to win the silver medal at the competition in Cote d’Ivoire.
Troost-Ekong ruptured his biceps femoris during Nigeria’s second game against the Elephants but aggravated the injury by continuing to play in the tournament.
His club, PAOK, has demanded compensation from FIFA for the injury suffered by the CB while on international duty.
