Flamingos head coach, Bankole Olowookere has expressed confidence in his team’s readiness as they prepare to face Liberia Women’s Under-17 team in the final World Cup qualifying round on June 19th.

“World Cup is sweet, because I’ve tasted it and I want to be there again.”

The primary objective for Olowookere and his team is to secure a place at the World Cup, and he insists that there is no pressure on the squad.

Speaking about the team’s mission in a chat with Brila.net, Olowookere outlined the clear stages they have set for their World Cup journey.

“As usual, we are prepared, it’s a mission that we’ve embarked on,” said the Flamingos Coach. “And the destination is for first, there’s three stages associated.”

“One is for us to get the ticket from Africa to qualify for the World Cup. And then the other stage is for us to try and equal the record of what we had in the last edition. And then the third one, we work hard to surpass the last edition.

“So we need to first of all get the first stage done.”

Olowookere highlighted the importance of the home leg and expressed the team’s excitement and eagerness to compete at the World Cup again.

“So 90 minutes away, 90 minutes at home. But for how good that there’s any pressure on us, neither from the federation or anybody.

“Any other pressure is to be our eagerness. Both the players and myself, because World Cup is sweet, because I’ve tasted it and I want to be there again.

“So a lot of things speaks for the World Cup itself. So also I’ve told the story of the World Cup to those girls and they are eager to experience as well.”

He also acknowledged the tough journey the team has faced to reach this point and emphasized their continued hard work and determination.

“So coming to this level that we are, we are working hard to make sure that we get that coordination.”
