Chelsea Reluctant to Activate Osimhen’s Release Clause

Chelsea appears hesitant to meet the staggering release clause demanded by Napoli for Star striker Victor Osimhen.

Renowned European football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed this insight during his appearance on the “Here we go” podcast.

Despite persistent links to clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain, Osimhen’s future remains uncertain.

The Nigerian put pen to paper for new deal with Napoli last December, yet speculation continues to swirl around his potential departure.

Osimhen’s contractual arrangement with Napoli includes a hefty release clause rumoured to be around 130 million euros.

However, Chelsea’s current financial situation, compounded by scrutiny from Financial Fair Play regulations, has prompted the club to explore alternative avenues.

Romano confirmed that Chelsea has yet to initiate formal discussions with Napoli or Osimhen’s representatives, signaling a cautious approach from the Premier League giants.

“What we can say is that at the moment between Chelsea and Victor Osimhen, and Chelsea and Napoli there is not a proper negotiation.

“Chelsea’s interest in Osimhen is something they already had since November. December they started some contacts to understand the release clause situation, the contract situation but Chelsea have still not decided how much they want to invest in a striker.

“Chelsea are not negotiating for Victor Osimhen and it’s also important to say that Chelsea don’t want to pay super crazy money for Osimhen.

“It’s a big release clause, around 120-130 million euros, and also a big salary requested by the player, big commission, that’s why Chelsea are still taking their time and remember they are still following younger strikers like Šeško and many others who can be interesting options ahead of the summer transfer window.” He concluded.
