Enugu Rangers Go Top of NPFL

In an action-packed weekend in the Nigeria Premier Football League, Enugu Rangers climbed top of the table with an impressive victory, while Remo Stars marked their return to winning ways.

Rangers claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over struggling Heartland in the Oriental derby in Aba on Sunday.

Defender Ifeanyi Onyebuchi and Kalu Nweke found the net for Rangers, securing their team’s ascent to the top of the league standings.

Under the leadership of Fidelis Ilechukwu, Rangers have shown remarkable form, losing only one of their last ten games and remaining unbeaten in nine consecutive matches. Additionally, they have clinched three victories in their last four away games, solidifying their position as title contenders.

Meanwhile, Lobi Stars relinquished their top spot following a 1-1 draw against Bayelsa United in Lafia.

Sunday Chinedu gave Lobi the lead, but Kehinde Lawal’s equalizer for Bayelsa United prevented Lobi from maintaining their lead at the summit.

In another upset, Plateau United’s title aspirations suffered a setback as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at home against relegation-threatened Akwa United at the New Jos Stadium.

Although they’d initially taken the lead, Plateau United conceded a late penalty, allowing Akwa United to snatch a crucial victory.

The top-four reshuffle continued with defending champions Enyimba facing a 2-1 defeat against Kwara United in Ilorin.

Despite a valiant effort to equalize, Enyimba fell short as Kwara United secured a vital win, propelling them closer to safety.

Elsewhere, Andrew Idoko and Azeez Falolu were instrumental in Katsina United’s comeback victory against Abia Warriors, clinching a 2-1 win at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina.

With 48 points from 27 matches, Rangers now sit atop the league standings, closely followed by Lobi Stars with 47 points.

At the other end of the table Heartland, Gombe United, Niger Tornadoes, and Bayelsa United occupy the bottom four spots, while Kwara United, with 32 points, are just one point away from escaping the relegation zone after their crucial victory.
