Taiwo Awoniyi tasted another Premier League defeat with his club Nottingham Forest this Sunday.
Andrew Omobamidele’s own goal condemned Forest to another defeat against Brighton, dealing a blow to hopes of Premier League survival.
The decisive moment came in the 29th minute when the Forest defender inadvertently redirected Pascal Gross’ curling free-kick into his own net, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
Despite a controversial challenge in the second half, Omobamidele remained on the pitch, much to the relief of his team.
However, Forest struggled to find their rhythm and were unable to muster a response.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s introduction of Taiwo Awoniyi in the second half aimed to bolster Forest’s attacking options, but they lacked the cutting edge needed to find an equalizer.
With this defeat, Nottingham Forest finds themselves just three points clear of the relegation zone, with 18th-placed Luton Town lurking dangerously with a game in hand.
