CAF CC: Rivers United Book Quarter-Final Berth

Rivers United coach, Evans Ogenyi is relieved after the club secured a place in the quarter final of CAF Confederation Cup.

The Pride of Rivers at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, on Sunday, showcased remarkable resilience as they triumphed over Ghana’s Dreams FC with a 2-1 victory.

Despite trailing early in the match, the Nigerian club displayed a formidable comeback, securing a second-place finish in Group C and securing their spot in the quarter-finals.

Speaking after the game, Ogenyi commended his players for their tenacity and determination in securing the crucial win.

“The most important thing is the qualification. We told our players not to be anxious. We had like three chances in the first half which we wasted,” Ogenyi told reporters after the game.

“You know when you don’t take your chances you might be punished by your opponent. They scored us in the 40th minute of the first half.

“You will agree with me that a team that come from behind to win, is a team that showed character.

“We told the players this is not just a Rivers United project, it is a Nigeria project and we know what is at stake. We need to qualify.”
