Napoli coach, Francesco Calzona admitted he was about to withdraw Victor Osimhen before he scored the team’s equaliser against Barcelona on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League.

Osimhen’s late goal made sure Napoli avoided defeat in Calzona’s first game in charge of the Partenopei.

The goal was the Forward’s last kick of the game before being replaced by Giovanni Simone.

Speaking on Osimhen’s impact on the team, the gaffer revealed he was not remotely tempted to keep Osimhen on for longer after the equaliser.

“No, in fact I had been ready to take him off earlier, but due to a tactical issue, I kept him on for a few more minutes.”

Calzona was given the job on Monday following the dismissal of Walter Mazzarri. He signed a contract until June 2024.
