Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has reportedly ceased negotiations with Jose Peseiro for the position of their new head coach.
Sources indicate that the parties failed to reach an agreement, prompting the Algerians to pivot towards appointing Vladimir Petkovic as the new coach for their men’s senior national team.
The imminent appointment of Petkovic, if finalized, will put an end to the swirling speculations surrounding Peseiro’s potential leadership of the Fennec foxes.
Algeria had initially considered Peseiro as the replacement for Djamel Belmadi, who departed following a disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Peseiro emerged as the front runner for the position after successfully guiding the Super Eagles to a second-place finish in the tournament.
Despite FAF Boss, Walid Sadi’s keen interest in securing Peseiro’s services, negotiations reportedly came to a halt, with the Portuguese showing reluctance to abandon his ongoing project with the Super Eagles.
Meanwhile, Jose Peseiro’s contract with the NFF is set to expire at the end of February, although he is likely to continue his coaching journey with Nigeria.
