Mexican striker Diego “El Puma” Chavez, aged 28, tragically died in a car crash in the early hours of Wednesday morning, according to FC Juarez.

The club released a statement on Facebook expressing deep sadness and highlighting Chavez’s characteristics of joy, enthusiasm, simplicity, and dedication during his time with FC Juarez.

Chavez, nicknamed “The Puma,” made 46 appearances for Juarez, scoring three goals. Fans have poured out tributes on social media, remembering his dedication and passion for the team.

The circumstances of the car crash involve Chavez losing control and colliding with a sign, leaving him trapped in the vehicle. FC Juarez is scheduled to face Club Puebla on Saturday, and it’s yet unknown if the game will proceed as planned.
