Jose Peseiro Rejects ‘Favourites’ Tag Vs Angola

Coach Jose Peseiro said he’s unlikely to change his tactics for the quarter final clash against Palanca Negras of Angola.

The Super Eagles will face the Angolans for a place in last four on Friday.

After missing out on the last edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Angola returned to the continent’s holy grail with a big bang.

The Angolans are one of the highest scoring side in the tournament, with nine goals in four games so far.

They drew 1-1 with Algeria in their opening game, scored three against Mauritania in the second game and concluded the Group phase with 2-0 win over Burkina Faso.

The team then put three past Namibia in the round of 16 last Saturday.

Asked if his team will approach the game with different system, Peseiro said :

“We can’t change our way because the opponents score a lot of goals. So, I’m not going to change my way and make my players uncomfortable. We will play our way.”

Peseiro’s side is the highest ranked team left in the competition and have been tagged as favourites to win the quarter final fixture.

“I believe in my team, but for me, this match is 50% for each team. We just want to go there, score, and don’t concede goals.” He told the press conference.

The last eight fixture is slated for the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan on Friday.
