Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has explained the process that brought about the inclusion of Chippa United goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabili into the team, following Francis Uzoho’s dip form.

Nwabali would most likely make his competitive Super Eagles debut in the tournament as Uzoho has been under immense scrutiny for his recent performances.

It is also worthy of note that Jose Peseiro had backed Francis Uzoho to regain his confidence and be back to his very best.

Speaking with the Super Eagles media channel, the Coach explained how he went about inviting Nwabili.

“We chose Nwabili because we observed many matches with video, wyscout data farm and also evaluate the performances of all our players in big leagues, around seventy-two of them. We also get information from different sources.”

“As for Nwabali, we received his information from NFF and I tried to observe him through videos and it was not easy because the Wyscout would have been better for me to take videos, but the South African league do not have their matches there so we got some videos from friends.”

“So I asked the NFF how posible it was to go there, I was there in South Africa for four days, I spoke with him, I spoke with the coach, spoke with other people, I watched his trainings and in a league match.”

“I picked him not because of the few days, but for the evaluation as a whole and we decided to put him in the list, because we believe in him. He showed good quality, good performance, good capacity, now I hope he shows in the national team, the same capacity, the same quality and the same performance because there is a difference in playing in the national team and playing in the club.”

Stanley Nwabili, 27, could make his debut for Nigeria at the AFCON as soon as the first group stage game.
